It is Christmas again and I have just been wondering what this time of the year means to us. We cannot negate that the birth of Jesus Christ is a historic event, one that happened over 2000 years ago. The christmas festivities we are holding around this time will enable us recall the circumstances sorrounding the birth of Jesus. But what does this mean to us today?
Do we have room for the God Man who on that cold night descended among his own, yet little did they realise it? Looking around us today, we will realise there are many who are hungry, neglected, homeless, etc. However, the real misery is for us to find ourselves loveless, especially when sorrounded by those dear to us, just like Jesus as he lay in that manger, with Mary and Joseph, helpless, unable to offer him a better place than the manger since there was no room in the inn in Bethlehem.
As we replay the events around the birth of Jesus, let us not forget the teachings of the Man Jesus, who taught us the logic of the God Jesus. "Love one another, just as I have loved you" (Jn. 15:12). If we do this, the many faces of Jesus in the sick, abandoned, homeless, hungry, thirsty, imprisoned and so on, may be able to take a fresh breath of the divine love that the child Jesus wants to share with us this Christmas and always.
May this Christmas season bring with it the peace, joy and inner conversion that each human heart longs for. May it, too, be a blessing to you and all your loved ones so that you may be able to join in the everlasting angelic choir and continue the hymn that was began that cold night in Bethlehem, in the ears of the shephereds: Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace to his people on earth! (Lk. 2:14).

Southern Sudan is now a New Nation
Today marks the birth of the world's newest nation, Southern Sudan. As the world celebrates with the people of Southern Sudan, the challenge lies ahead, that of assisting steer forward this baby nation so she may grow to prudently exercise her freedom, ensuring true peace within her borders and with the international colleagues. Building the nation is Salva Kiir's mager challenge, given the fact that the region has been overlooked by the Omar Bashir led government for so long.
The fact that the international community has supported the birth of Southern Sudan should imbed in this community a sense of responsibility towards the new country so she may be encouraged until she can walk on her own. May peace reign in Southern Sudan, may peace reign in the world.

Celebrating International Women's day 2011
Equal rights, equal opportunities: Progress for all
Celebrations for International Women's Day have varied from country to country ever since the UN set aside 8th of March as a day to commemorate women's achievements and contribution to the universal society. This year's (2011) theme for the day is Equal rights, equal opportunities: Progress for all. The theme calls on the universal community to recognise the rights of women and to grant them equal opportunities if there is to be achieved a meaningful progress for all in our modern society.
It is true that a lot of strides have been achieved with regard to the recognition of the importance of the contribution of women to social, economic and political realities in our society. However, women and girls are still disadvantaged in in all these spheres. There are still communities that have not yet given priority to the education of girls. How can equal opportunites in other sectors be achieved if the basic right of education has not been realised yet?
There are already international and national instruments like the Convention on the Elimination of all kinds of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) that pupport to address women discrimination in all aspects. Many nation states have also signed or ratified these documents. A great challenge, however, lies ahead for governments to implement practical measures that would ensure the incoorperation of women in the progress of their nations. Laws even good ones alone are not sufficient. There is a need for delibarate efforts and practical strategies to address the issues.
As the world marks this year's IWD, let us all pull together efforts to ensure that the women population is actually fully incooperated in the efforts to build our human family.
Let us celebrate this day, honoring all the women in our lives: our mothers, our wives, our girlfriends, our sisters, daughters, aunts, etc. How would life be without them?

And the world rejoiced, because they ousted the president!
On the events in Tunisia that led to the ousting of the President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali. Read the full story on http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110115/ap_on_bi_ge/af_tunisia_riots
Please let us all join hands in praying for Tunisia and all other states where citizens live in oppression and no one comes to their aid. Let us not close our ears and eyes to the sufferings of others. Who is my neighbour? Let us remember that all that goes round comes round. Why? The world has all along been watching. Who was benefitting from the growing economy? Now the tourists whose enjoyment was made possible by Ben Ali have all been flown out by 'European tour companies' who have been working in the country and denying the locals employment. And the massses of the Tunisians who have been labouring for basic needs have nowhere to turn to. And our writers seem to suggest Al Quaida is now offering support to the protestors! People!!!!!! Talk of double standards. Let us all pose questions on how each of us has played a role in maintaining the oppressive situation in Tunisia and elsewhere in the world, Africa to be specifi. God Bless us all, Inshalla!!

“... even if Southern Sudan separates from the North it will not shift to the Indian Ocean or to the Atlantic Coast,” Salva Kiir of Southern Sudan on the need for the possible North and South Sudan states to amicably solve their differences as they will still continue to co exist.
